While in class this week, I was impressed by the amount of fun technology resources that students can use to connect with the outdoors in an educational and informative way. One of my favourite resources that was shown was Chatterpix! I decided that while we were exploring Finnerty Gardens and finding the QR codes, I would also experiment with Chatterpix to see what its all about!

Chatterpix was super simple to use and did not require a login which would be very helpful when using this with young students. It was easy to either take a photo through the app, or select one from the camera roll. Once you had selected the photo, adding the mouth was also simple and I was surprised by how easy it was to place the mouth where I wanted it to go. The one annoyance I did encounter was some slight difficulties with trying to minimize the stickers to the size I wanted and then place them in my desired location, I found that part to be a little finicky. There were lots of fun stickers and frames that I’m sure students would love. The voice recording part was nice; it included a 3 second countdown and showed you how much of the 30 second timer you had remaining in big font on the screen. I think this would be a super fun tool to incorporate in the classroom, possibly combined with plant identification tools such as inaturalist which was mentioned in class as well. Luckily, the two plants I took pictures of were very identifiable to me, but it would be helpful for students to learn more about the plants!
